Cooking
In this article we will show you what cooking equipment we will take with us.

Integrated in our kitchen is a Wallas stove running on Diesel. The product is originally developed for the Marine industry. When reading the experiences of other ‘Overlanders’ we did not get a clear picture. The product is either good or bad. We had the opportunity to discuss this with someone who has such a unit already for a number of years in his car. If build in properly and using clean Diesel it should work very reliable. Two small tanks, each holding 5 liters are fitted under the kitchen sink.
10 Liters should last us for about 50-100 hours usage. We will put it to the test!
Our alternative was gas, but given the number of countries we are visiting, all of them with their own kinds of gas, fittings, hoses and regulations we decided to opt for the Wallas as Diesel is always with us (we hope..).
Obviously we hope to have lots and lots of nice weather and that we will not have to cook inside Idefix. For that reason we bought:

With these small cookers it is like with GPSr, a great diversity of models is on the market. Three Brands did stick out: Optimus, MSR and Primus. We liked the Optimus Nova best and were also convinced by positive reviews from users. The Nova can run on any kind of liquid fuel.
Our prime source will however be wood or charcoal. Two small barbecues will therefor join us. These little things are great, they take very little space, when hiking you can put one easily in your Daypack.
Still to be bought is a Dutch Oven (Camp Oven). This versatile pan can be used for lots of different recipes. One purpose is to bake our own bread in the countries where the Brits left as legacy this horrible white sandwich bread.
Wallas is the website of the built-in stove manufacturer. Curiously enough they did not show the model we bought although it is already a long time on the market.
Webasto also has a Diesel stove. At the time we did not find anybody using a stove from them.
Optimus makes already for a very long time camping stoves, it is their core business.
Primus is the other Swedish company with a good world-wide reputation on stoves and lanterns.
MSR is the only real competitor for the Swedes.
Very good information on Dutch Ovens can be found here.
